CBD is evolving at an accelerating pace and information is becoming increasingly confusing. We will explain its current status and potential.

Publisher's summary

This book is a comprehensive review of the scientific literature on the potential medical benefits of CBD, presenting findings from both preclinical and human clinical studies.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating compound derived from the cannabis plant and hemp that's found in a variety of products, from lotions and smoothies to gummies and pet treats.

It has been touted as a treatment for conditions including mental illness, anxiety, pain and even cancer, but this has not always been scientifically substantiated.

In this book, three leading cannabis researchers address the scientific evidence for CBD, presenting a comprehensive review of the scientific literature on its potential medical benefits and explaining findings from both preclinical and human clinical studies.

As it turns out, the current CBD craze is supported in part by the results of preclinical animal studies that suggest CBD may have medical benefits.

Meanwhile, clinical research has been hampered by regulations governing cannabis use and has lagged behind basic animal research.

The authors examine what research has shown about the chemical and pharmacological profiles of CBD and its interactions with THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, and further review the latest information on CBD's effectiveness in treating epilepsy, cancer, nausea, pain, anxiety, PTSD, depression, sleep disorders, psychiatric disorders, and addiction.
